Boxing Footwork Tips – It’s Easier Than You Think!

You’ve got to RELAX!

Just like everything else in boxing, if you are tense and not confident in yourself, you’ll look rigid and uptight. Boxing is all about rhythm and if you don’t have any, it will hurt you.

This is why I make it mandatory for music to be playing in the gym when I’m working out or working with any new fighter. The music relaxes everyone in the gym and allows us to perform better.

I tell my fighters to think more about the music or think of their favorite song in their head and box-dance to it. Box-dance is simply getting in your fighting stance and have a rhythm to your body as you listen to the music. Keep your legs loose and stay on the balls of your feet. Don’t be embarrassed! Feel free to move around almost as if you’re dancing.

Make sure you are doing this in front of a mirror because just like your shadow boxing workout, you’ll be able to see yourself and notice what flows nicely and smoothly.

I can’t emphasize it enough, DO NOT FEEL EMBARRASSED. Boxing is about style so develop your style of footwork.
